Network Analysis in the Humanities: Approaches and Methodology
In recent years the toolkit of humanities scholars has been expanded with powerful software that allows for the creation of beautiful network visualizations (see for instance the websites of Kindred Britain or ePistolarium and the teaser below). However, few scholars are aware of the methodological assumptions implicit in such programs, and even fewer know how to use the software in order to make it answer to their specific research questions and needs.
At the next Create Digital History Workshop: Network Analysis in the Humanities #1 we will discuss the methodological implications of popular software such as Gephi or Cytoscape. We will conceptualize and prepare a dataset that is suitable for historical network analysis and practice uploading our datasets in Network Analysis programs.
This session of the Create Digital History Workshop is the first in a series of three devoted to questions of Network Analysis in the Humanities. The second and third session will be held on 23 November and 14 December.
