This project focuses on inventory and digitization of distinctive stylistic elements in ornamental letters per printer in early modern prints. The aim is to create a database with which one may identify printers of anonymously published texts and unearthed partnerships between printers and publishers. Furthermore, an interactive map will shed light on external influences, stylistic developments, ‘the movement of letters’ and visualize the relations over time between certain printers and publishers.
Our goal is to digitize relevant stylistic data, i.e. ornamental letters in books (printed in the seventeenth century) that can be found in the UBA, adding relevant metadata to each photo, and making this database freely available to all who are interested.
