NWA Idea Generator Grant Giovanni Colavizza for improved access to historical texts

This Summer, Giovanni Colavizza, coordinator of CREATE’s research theme ‘AI for Cultural Heritage’, has been awarded funding from NWO in the Idea Generator scheme of the Dutch Research Agenda NWA for his project “Improving the accessibility of textual historical collections via transfer learning.”

Abstract: Digitized heritage collections are becoming abundant thanks to years of efforts from heritage institutions all over the world. We can now work on making these collections better accessible by the public. In close collaboration with the Netherlands’ National Library, we will apply novel transfer learning techniques to help make searching heritage collections as smooth as searching the Web.
