Melvin Wevers, coordinator of the Amsterdam Time Machine (ATM), has been selected as a fellow for the 4th edition of Intercontinental Academia (ICA) on “Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence”. During the program, a group of fellows and mentors explores fundamental interdisciplinary questions at the intersection of cognitive science, neuroscience, and artificial intelligence, focusing on AI’s ethical and practical implications on theories of cognition. This program has been organized by UBIAS, the network of University-Based Institutes for Advanced Study, of which UvA’s Institute for Advance Study (IAS) is also part.
Wevers will participate in conferences and workshops organized in Paris, France, and Belo Horizonte, Brazil. As a fellow, he will work on modeling historical awareness into AI systems. Such awareness can help add historical context and notions of causality and process into such systems.
