Digital History Workshop: Annotation Techniques for Qualitative Content Analysis – II
At this session of the Digital History Workshop we will practice and discuss the use of digital annotating tools for humanities scholarship. We will experiment with Atlas.ti, one of the so-called CAQDAS (Computer Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software), which provides scholars with an integrated interface (the Hermeneutic Unit – HU) for coding and analyzing text, pdf or multimedia files. To get an idea check the below Atlas.ti video teaser.
The session is a follow-up to the previous DHW-session that focused on labeling techniques for video files. During this workshop we will practice the basic Atlas.ti annotation techniques hands-on. We will also conduct simple queries of our annotated material. We will conclude the workshop with a discussion on the methodological implications of digital annotation tools such as Atlas.ti.
You can register for the workshop by sending an email to Hanna Jansen h.e.jansen@uva.nl (unregistering no later than two days in advance of the workshop). You will receive further information and reading material upon registration.
(please note: this month’s workshop will be at 3pm – not at 1pm as usual)
